Country Strategy
Together, IDB staff and Paraguay determine how Paraguay’s priorities coincide with the Bank’s development strategies for the region. The product of that process is the IDB country strategy with Paraguay, containing the Bank’s expected program for Paraguay for the 2009-2013 period.
Country strategies include an overview of the country’s current economic situation. They draw on analytical work conducted by the Bank and other parties on a wide range of economic and social sectors, such as rural and urban development, health, education, government modernization, transportation, trade, and the environment, among others.
Paraguay’s Operational Strategy (2009-2013)
The objective of the IDB’s work in Paraguay is to collaborate with the country as it strives to overcome major development challenges, attain sustainable growth and reduce poverty. The strategy takes the work of other international cooperation agencies into consideration and seeks to help pave the way for the diversification of funding sources
The Bank’s strategy for Paraguay focuses on the following areas:
- Strengthening governance and government institutions. This will lead to better coordination of the economic development process and will increase the efficiency and transparency of public management, broaden citizen participation, and improve consolidation of democratic institutions.
- Creating the foundations for sustainable growth by consolidating the market economy and supporting stronger regional and global integration. This will foster the proper conditions for increased private sector investment and development, as well as improve the country’s competitiveness;
- Poverty reduction and improved living conditions for the low-income population through human capital development and better access to quality essential services.
