International Forum on Latin America will take place on May 25th in Paris
A high level International Economic Forum on Latin America and the Caribbean will take place on May 25th in Paris, France. This event, organized jointly by the French Ministry of Economy, Finance and Trade, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Development Centre of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD-DEV) will bring together high-level decision makers from Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe, including President Laura Chinchilla of Costa Rica; IDB President Luis Alberto Moreno; OECD Secretary General Angel Gurria; Michelle Bachelet, former President of Chile and Executive Director of UN Women; Finance Ministers and other high-level public sector authorities; and CEOs of international companies. The Forum provides the opportunity to discuss the challenges facing the Region and to share solutions for sustainable economic development. The event will ask how the region can engage reforms in favor of competitiveness, productivity and inclusive growth, and embrace the full potential of its newly acquired strength and stability.

IDB and SAAB to collaborate on sustainable cities in Latin America and the Caribbean
STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Luis Alberto Moreno, President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Dan Jangblad, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at SAAB, the Swedish company, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly support sustainable development in cities throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. The IDB and SAAB agreed to explore opportunities to cooperate in Saab’s project for attractive cities, as well as in the IDB’s initiative to support the development of sustainable cities and safe environments in the LAC region.

Canada, Mexico, Spain and USA contribute to multi-donor integration trust fund
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) today announced it has received $20 million in contributions and pledges from Canada, Mexico, Spain and the United States to a trust fund that will support projects designed to reduce cross-border trade, transport and logistics costs and expand trade in Latin America and the Caribbean. Canada has contributed CDN $10 million to the new window. The United States has fulfilled its pledge of $5 million and Spain added $2 million. Mexico has pledged $3 million and Colombia has expressed interest in contributing.

Conference on Role of Development Banks in Mobilizing Climate Finance organized by IDB, AFD, BMZ, KfW, and others
The Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions – ALIDE, the Agence Française de Developpement – AFD, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development – BMZ, the Development Bank of Southern Africa – DBSA, the Inter-American Development Bank – IDB, KfW Bankengruppe, the United Nations Environment Programme – UNEP, and the World Resources Institute – WRI, the World Federation of Development Finance Institutions – WFDFI, and The Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific – ADFIAP, are jointly organizing a workshop on "The Role of National Development Banks in Mobilizing International Climate Finance", to be held at the headquarters of the Inter-American Development Bank, in Washington, D.C., on April 18-19, 2012.

MIF, EIB, FMO and other investors launch 2nd Stage of Eco-Friendly Venture Capital Fund
The Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), member of the Inter-American Development Bank Group, the European Investment Bank (EIB), the Dutch Development Bank (FMO), and The Nature Conservancy have launched the next stage of a venture capital fund that directs capital to community-based sustainable businesses to promote innovative market solutions that benefit the rural poor and preserve critical ecosystems. The fund has a capitalization of $20.5 million. Other investors include the Hivos-Triodos Fund, Oikocredit, Calvert Foundation and family foundations.
