Adaption to Climate Change

Priority Lines of Action:

• Assist countries in the region on their efforts towards a climate resilient and carbon neutral economy through the incorporation of adaptation strategies into sectoral, national/sub-national and/or regional planning.
• Strengthen/build local institutional capacity to identify and assess vulnerability to climate change through the provision of tools for the monitoring of climate system’s deterioration indicators and the use of information from regional climate models.
• Provide finance and technical assistance in the design and implementation of strategic and replicable pilots of adaptation measures that address the anticipated impacts of climate change while actively demonstrating the costs and benefits of adaptation in prioritized sectors.
• Promote preventive risk management and risk reduction strategies, including risk sharing and innovative transfer mechanisms such as insurance schemes or other means to address loss and damage associated to climate change, and assist longer-term efforts for economic diversification.
• Assist countries in the development and assessment of key policy and regulatory instruments such as price signals, environmental markets, construction standards and public private partnerships, and the integration of these within regional, national or sectoral climate resilient plans and strategies as appropriate.
