Strengthening public and private institutions
The IDB supports the development of institutional and technical capacity in Latin America and the Caribbean through the promotion of policy and institutional frameworks that support all aspects of climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Key areas of intervention to help governments and private sector institutions tackle climate change address: development and implementation of national and sub-national climate change strategic action plans, strengthening institutional capacity and supporting the development of policy and regulatory frameworks facilitating investments in clean energy and vulnerability reduction, strengthening of national and sub-national authorities through capacity-building programs, support to national and local funding institutions, commercial banks and other financial intermediaries to access and develop financial instruments to promote carbon finance, energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies and strengthening civil society participation and ownership of climate change-related decision making
