Some of the primary functions of the Sustainable Energy and Climate Change Unit (ECC) are:

Mainstreaming SECCI

One of the goals of the IDB is to increase technical and scientific capacity and knowledge throughout the region in areas related to the four SECCI pillars. The IDB group will promote SECCI pillars throughout all its activities in an effort to mainstream these issues throughout the Latin American and Caribbean countries.

Directing Strategic Partnerships

The IDB has been designated as an implementing agency of the Climate Investment Funds. In order to support the objectives of the CIF, the IDB will continue to provide new and additional financing for investment in green technologies to mitigate the challenges and increased risks of climate change.

Developing Sustainability Tools

The IDB will continue to work with eminent research institutions and NGOs in order to provide Latin American and Caribbean countries with interactive and dynamic evaluation tools that provide the latest available information on the environmental and social impacts related to project development.

Supporting Policy Development

The IDB will continue to support country efforts to develop more comprehensive policies with a broader consideration for sustainable energy and climate change.
