Sustainability at the IDB
Sustainability at the IDB means promoting economic growth and poverty reduction that ensures the kind of lasting environmental social and economic benefits that IDB development was created to foster. By putting sustainability at the heart of its operations, the Bank aims to help countries in Latin America and the Caribbean maintain and enhance their natural and social capital for development.
The Bank recognizes that ecosystems are critical to economic growth and poverty reduction and that the inclusion of traditionally excluded groups such as indigenous peoples, women, or those with disabilities is fundamental to meaningful development.
As the IDB expands its sustainability investment, as part of its commitments under the Ninth General Capital Increase (GCI-9), it is better able to support environmental and social goals in Latin America and the Caribbean. Thus it is important for the IDB’s stakeholders to become more familiar with the Bank's sustainability standards and products.
