    Featuring 27 pieces from the art collections of the IDB and the Organization of American States, it is one of several smaller exhibits on Latin American art from the second half of the 20th century, and forms part of an ambitious project, “About Change,” organized by the World Bank Art Program, in association with the IDB Cultural Center and other institutions. The main exhibition, which will open in 2011, focuses on the arts produced in Latin America and the Caribbean during the last decade through the works of artists 35 years of age or younger, exploring the changes that have resulted from economic globalization and information technology. This new IDB exhibition is designed to help create a context against which the changes observed over the last ten years can be gauged.

    Thirty-seven objects, representing a variety of expressions from the Americas, drawn from the Collection of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), will be on display. The selection includes works in polychrome clay and wood, stone, and papier maché from Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, and Peru. The exhibition is part of the celebrations surrounding the 18th Anniversary of the IDB Cultural Center.

    The exhibit has been organized in honor of Mexico, site of the 51st Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank, that will take place in Cancun in March of 2010. 26 selected photographs from more than two hundred entries submitted to the 2009 Cultural Center Open Call for Mexican Photographers will be on the exhibit. The intention of this photographic survey is to gauge the perceptions among visual artists in Mexico, in light of the realities and challenges facing their nation in the first decade of the new century. The winners are: Eric Scibor Rylski (First Prize), Guillermo Castillo Ramírez (Second Prize), Dulce Pinzón (Third Prize), Alán Gerardo González Ruvalcaba (Honorable Mention), and César Rodríguez Zavala (Honorable Mention).

    Selected photographs from the second photography exhibition organized in 2009 by the Istituto Italo-Latino Americano (IILA) in Rome, with the sponsorship of the IDB Cultural Center; and presented in the context of PhotoGrafia (Festival Internazionale di Roma e Zoneattive), an annual photo exhibition held in Rome. The winners are: José Manuel Castrellón of Panama (First Prize), Héctor Silva of Chile (Second Prize), and Sandra Sebastián of Guatemala (Third Prize). An Honorable Mention went to Nicolás Wormull of Chile. The exhibit includes three photographs by each of the award winners, and two each by other selected photographers, for a total of 21 photos in the show.


  • Taking Action on Climate Change in Latin America and the Caribbean

    In a partnership spanning more than five decades, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and its member countries in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) have invested heavily in economic and social development. The IDB is prepared to meet LAC’s growing demand for climate change support interventions. These include providing more knowledge to the region’s policymakers, strengthening institutions with responsibilities in this area, and mainstreaming climate change mitigation and adaptation measures in IDB operations.


  • The Aid for Trade Fund

    The Fund, which is consistent with the priorities of the Aid for Trade (AFT) initiative of the WTO, will also help to coordinate and mobilize multi-sectoral expertise across governments, non-governmental institutions and private sector, and to strengthen coordination and partnerships with multilateral and regional organizations and donor agencies. The Aid for Trade Fund will strengthen Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) governments and the private sector’s capacity to integrate into the global economy and to benefit from liberalized trade and increased market access.

    The exhibition features artists born in Latin America and the Caribbean who have emigrated to Canada. The exhibit takes a closer look at their work in an attempt to understand some of the motivations behind the artists' proposals, in the context of contemporary art, and Canadian art in particular. The artists are: Laura Barron, Niurka Barroso, Delio Delgado, Marie-Denise Douyon, Joscelyn Gardner, Osvaldo Ramirez Castillo, and Oscar Danilo Vargas.
